Who was lucky enough to kill a deer on opening weekend? Any tracking stories?

Nope......We had a company golf outting Sat morning in the rain, Amanda's family came down, then yesterday I was the only one in the house that managed to dodged the stomach bug so I was on clean up duty......not how I planned my weekend........ :(( Hope everyone else had a better weekend.

We didn't personally have any luck, bu Sam's son Wyatt certainly got his first deer track this past weekend with his owner Sergio. :D I'm a proud granmommy even if I didn't get to hunt.

I am going to try again this evening, they are slowly coming back to the feeders after the recent rains. And try to get a quick hunt in Sat. Morning before the weather hits again. I need to get these dogs on a live track soon, there not showing me much on the mock trails we have been running.

Roux had his first track of the season and I am just beaming with pride. There wasn't any blood to start, but we knew where the deer entered the woods. We took Roux along the wood line and he darted into the woods exactly where the deer went. He is off leash and we use a GPS collar. When he got to the deer, she still had some fight left in her and tried to escape . . . Roux bayed the deer until she expired! We could hear the commotion, but didn't get to actually see it because of the thick palmettos in our woods. This is a major improvement over last year . . . he was only 14 months old last year when he found his first deer that wasn't dead and, well, let's just say he was startled and ran back to Momma LOL Not this year! He is growing up and we are really proud of him.

That's great, Karen. I remember you telling us about what happened last year. I'm glad he stuck with her!

Planning to hunt some this week if the weather holds out. While a little rain isn't enough to keep me out of the woods, NOAA is predicting rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Just have to keep an eye on the radar.

Good Job Roux!! Gets a little exciting sometimes when you can see what's going on.

Court, the rain I can live with but the gnats ran me out of the stand Friday!

Heading to the ranch this evening. Will be hunting for the next couple of days. I'll try to update live from the stand when I can.

The cows messed up this morning's hunt...which is kind of becoming the norm. Still pretty dark and drizzly out so I will try to stay on stand until 9:30 or 10.
