One of my friends has a two year old red male, and now wants a blue male puppy... I told him that I thought it was a bad idea, because as they grow older it's a challenge to keep them from fighting.
He also works away for one or two months at a time, leaving his wife to tend to the dogs, and she is more of a pet lover than a trainer...
This guy is a great trainer, and he thinks he can handle it. I really don't want to see this become a problem down the road.
What thoughts do you have on this one?

I know that if they are working, such as in a bay pen, they are too busy to worry about each other. But, how about just running for exercise?

I have 4 males and they run loose together. They some times have problems but not too often.

It really just depends on the dogs. Of course, you can't predict the personality of a new puppy, but if the older male isn't aggressive or too territorial, they will probably be fine. My cousin had two male Lacys with no problem.

I have 2 intact males. Most of the time they are just fine. In my situation, Abe is very alpha and Larry is not, so Larry usually just goes away. Occasionally they will fight, but it doesnt last very long. When we have family together, we have Colt, Larry, Abe and Billy- all intact- and they puff up and act up when they are first together, but after that, they are ok.

The worst problem that I EVER had was when I had 2 alpha females at the same time and both of them were fixed!!

Real canine dogs, not less than desirable women.

Flash- :))

Yes, my two females would almost fight to the death. I was living out here by myself and I never knew when they would decide to fight. The first fight was broken up easily with water. Then, they got harder and harder to break up. One time the started fighting on the screened in porch and I went and got my pepper spray. Nearly killed myself, another dog and one cat, but didnt affect the fighters in the least. The last fight that they had, I just had to let them go at it and hoped that one didnt kill the other. They were pretty evenly matched in size, but one was quite a bit older than the other. They finally quit fighting and that night, I didnt know if the older dog was going to make it thru the night, but she did. It was awful.
