The idea that working dogs don't make the best pets is nothing new. When you take a dog that has been bred for generations to work wild boar and rough cattle, not to mention kill varmints and protect a ranch, you can't expect those instincts and drives to disappear simply because you live in the suburbs. The purpose and history of a breed isn't just a neat fact to recite to friends, it is the genetic essence of your dog. Ignoring this is unfair to dogs and people alike.
