A Blue Northern blew into Central Texas yesterday, and man, it got cold and nasty last night! When I went home for lunch it was 80 degrees, Sadie and I ate out in the sun on the porch, and when I picked her up for agility class it was windy and in the 30s. Even though agility is held outside in an open arena, we went anyway, and I just about froze to death. But Sadie did really well :ymapplause:

I'm most excited about our weaves. I've always been the most nervous about the weave poles, they seem so counter intuitive for the dogs, but Sadie did four perfect runs! We still have them set up as channel weaves, but just barely, so they're essentially in a straight line now. All of the other dogs had trouble with them being so close together, but Sadie didn't miss a single pole, and even got some speed up on the last run.

We also nailed the pause table exercise. It is a box about 14" off the ground and the dogs have to jump up and sit or down until they are released. The tough part is getting them to hit the table and settle perfectly after running full speed from another obstacle. We had a line set up with a tunnel and a jump and the pause table at the end. While other dogs ran out, or slowed down too much and stopped before the table, or couldn't get settled on the table, Sadie got it perfect three times. Despite whipping through the first two obstacles, she responded to my "Easy" by checking herself just enough and as soon as she was on the table she put her butt down and stayed until I released her.

Of course class wasn't perfect. Towards the end we were practicing front crosses after a two jump series. The wind was really howling, all the dogs were getting agitated and Sadie was especially worked up after getting so much praise during our previous exercises. So we went through the two jumps and then, instead of turning back with me for a front cross, she got a case of the agility zoomies and did a mad dash through the tire jump and over the A-frame. Then she came sprinting back to me looking very proud, like "Mom, did you see how I nailed the A-frame, give me treats!" Yeah, not quite...

We have one more week left before we move on from the beginner class to practice with the novice competitors. I'm so proud of Sadie, training has been challenging given her extreme drive, but I think we'll be ready to try a few competitions this spring!
