Of all the standard bird dog methods you are likely familiar with, the only one I have ever proved effective on a Lacy Dog was the old paw squeeze. When they jump on you, catch their paws and squeeze until the dog winces. It takes repetition, but they catch on pretty quick.

Yes, I've tried it, as well as using a marker word since I have too many coordination problems with the clicker :ymblushing: Check out Jim's excellent introduction to operant conditioning, which is what clicker training is all about: http://workinglacys.wordpress.com/2009/ ... ditioning/. Personally, I think it works great. It isn't the only training method I use, but I used marking and rewarding as the foundation for agility training and I literally had Sadie jumping through hoops from 15 feet away. As Jim discusses in his post, it's one of the best ways to make a dog actually think about their actions and shape their behaviors.

To get a comprehensive overview on it, check out Karen Pryor's site: http://www.clickertraining.com/. She is the undisputed queen of clicker trainer and has done some amazing things with it.
