As y'all can see, Mike and Mis have not exactly been on line a lot, and even I am limiting my time and posting, but we are aware of the effort and results that are being achieved at local bay pan competitions by NLDA members.

We are also aware that at least a couple local members intend to maintain solid performance levels at Uncle Earl's in March. And that a cram session over the next month would be very beneficial.

That being said, we do not currently have any pigs in the pen for training, nor do we have the time or resources to properly maintain one. However, Mike does obviously have the facilities.

So, the question is...... IF we were to catch a good bay pen pig this weekend, and bring it home for your training pleasure, would any of you be willing to feed it for the month? And how often would anyone actually come out to use it?

I figure that it will cost ~30$ per week to keep one 200+lb boar fed (~25lb of corn per day). Ill take care of it when the month is up.

Y'all let me know that you are serious about training hard over the next month, and we will get serious about providing a subject.

Steve

That is really generous, thank you! And we've all missed having you around.

I can't go to Earl's this year, my parents are coming in town that weekend for my birthday. I'm guessing they wouldn't be keen on spending 16 hours in the car and an entire weekend smelling hog crap, not to mention the holy fit my mom would throw the first time she heard a dog catch out. BUT I have been seriously contemplating Fort Bayou at the end of April. And Sadie definitely needs the practice.

I'd be willing to chip in for piggy upkeep. I could probably make it out a couple Saturdays or Sundays between now and Earl's. Hunt for the Hungry weekend would be out, and SXSW runs the two weekends before Earl's, but I still have some flexibility on those weekends. So I'll keep an eye on this thread.

It might be a good plan for whoever keeps the hog to charge a small fee for using their pen. Like $10 for a couple of hours or something -- just enough to balance out the feed bill. I won't be going to Uncle Earl's, but I think this is a great idea for those who will be competing in bay events seriously. :)

Here's hoping Trapper, Brutus and the crew can work their magic! Catching a hog is one thing, catching the perfect Uncle Earl's practice pig is another, but I have faith :D

We will get a pig in the pen, and call or post a status report at that time.

From there, its your game. Come out and work the dogs as much as you want and keep the feed trough full (holds several days worth).

I would love to say that Mike and I would take a hands on interest, we would like to help as much as possible, and one or both of us may be there some times, but any greater commitment is just not feasible.

Hey that sounds good Steve . I will get some feed out there let me know when you have the pig. Will you or Mike be able to feed now and then . I know that you all are busy and just the pen and the hog is asking a lot . There is just no way I can't come out every 3 days. I will try to come a couple of times a week . Also if buy some feed is there a place I can store the extra ? Thanks !!

As long as we're making requests, can you dye it pink too? :p

I'd only be able to make it out a few times to practice, but I'm more than happy to chip in on feed if that works for y'all. Oh, and let me know when you plan to practice on the weekends. Bird + hog + me x no supervision = bad idea.

Nothing yet.

But, I did miss a call last night, from the guy who has traps set for me, and have not been able to contact him this morning. With any luck, there is a big boar hog waiting for me down the road.
