So in case you didn't know, Ugly Dog will soon be offering their entire line of cut gear in PINK :-BD The collars, vests and bib will all be available in pink with black trim. WOOT! Of course my order is already in :))

Once again, I had to custom order it, and that started a conversation with the new owners of Ugly Dog about making a special line for smaller dogs. They already do the 3" wide terrier collar, which would make great puppy trainers, but that is too thin for a Lacy and I don't think it is long enough either. But smallest size they currently carry is 4" wide and 22" end to end. That is just too big for a standard size Lacy. So I currently have a 3.5" by 17" one that I like, but that tracking collar doesn't fit between the straps, which means it is constantly making a clicking noise that annoys the crap out of me. So I placed an order for a 3.75" by 17". Steve thinks I should go smaller, but I'd like to experiment with this size and try it on some of the other Lacys in comparison to the 3.5" and 4" ones.

If everyone could post the width and the length of the cut collars they run, as well as the circumference of their dog's neck if you know it, that would be extremely helpful. If you know the materials and thickness, that could help too. The goal is to give Ugly Dog enough numbers that they could make an educated guess on a production run of collars appropriate for smaller cur dogs and larger cur puppies.

To start us off...

Julie on Sadie (14" neck) - 3.5" x 17" with 2 standard layers of Cordura and 1 layer of Kevlar
Steve on Brutus, Lucifer, Banjo and Lucy - 4" x 17" with 2 thin layers of Cordura and 1 layer of Kevlar, also runs a 4" x 16" made of webbed strap

To the top y'all...

This isn't about placing an order or committing to buying an Ugly Dog collar. It is simply to help them get the numbers and data needed to add a small breed collar to the lineup. And yes, it's primarily in response to Lacy owners who have to get custom cut gear, which takes extra time and sometimes extra money. So post the measurements, or post suggestions for measurements if you don't like what you have.

There was another response on ETHD regarding this. What he describes is pretty much what I want as well. What do you think?

"Im needing one for my Lacy. She is tiny. 30 lbs at the most. And my terrier collar that i bought for a buddies Jagd is too small for her. Its also too small for his Jagd so it is on my male Lacy pup right now and about to be too small for him. If i were to make an in between collar it would be 3.75 thick, Have one loop for tracking collar, Be double strapped, fit necks from 14 to 17 inches. With four layer protection like the Ugly Dog."

OK Julie I did not read this until after dark..and after the dogs were worked :(
So I will do some measuring tomorrow.
I know Mike ordered all our collars from Valley Creek and we had to measure them all then..
Ellie's collar is small cause she is small and it is a 16" length 3 1/2 " width and Trapper's is like a 20" length and 4" wide.

I can't remember how many layers all our collars are because we have a ton of them BUT the valley Creek collars that Mike swears by for protection as well as flexibility are only 2 layers (Cordura). They have weathered many hunts very well.
