I got a call sat. evening from a friend of mine at work. He said that he had shot the deer that he had been hunting for and lost it. I asked him about the shot and so forth. He said his bow sounded like a banjo going off and the deer jumped his shot. He had found half his arrow and jumped the deer. I told him to let it lie and we would look for it in the morning when the sun came up and the ground was damp. Well, I get a call at 4:30 in the moring because he forgot to set his clock back! i-) I load the dogs up and head out to meet him. We got there just before sun up. I locked Colt in the cab of the truck, bad idea, he barked and honked the horn calling all the cows up. We went to where he had frist hit the deer and no blood, but the half of the arrow looked good. I suggested we head to the thicket where he had jumped the deer. Still no sing of blood. Ben is looking up trees, watching the cows, half ass working the ground. I finally found a drop of blood and what looked like lung, both the size of a pin head. I keep trying to work Ben in the direction the deer took off. About 40 yards later I see some more blood, a few more drops and one good clot. From there it lead into another thicket. There was no blood on the other side! By this point Ben had completely quit working and had turned all his attention on the cows. Me and Jess kept looking for anything! I was just about to give up when Ben started to work a trail with some intencity. I went ahead and followed suit. Around 50 yards Ben hits on a small drop and kept working hard! About 1/2 mile later we had the deer :-BD . I never saw a drop bigger than a pin head and they were few and far between.

Great Job. It seems like just when you start to give up on a dog. He does everything right :))

Robby/Ben--great job! Nothing better than finishing a trail with a good deer at the end of it.
How old is Ben? Was it a angling away hit?

Ben is just a little over 2 now.

And by what he told me it was an angled shot.

Way to go Ben :-BD And Robby too, for leaving him on the ground and encouraging him to work it out. Your patience paid off. And I'm sure your buddy was happy too!

(And if you have a larger version of that picture, email it to me!)
