This weekend we ended up with 2 extra hog dogs at a bay. It got me thinking what have you done or what would you do if you caught someone elses dogs hunting on your property?

We would be having a chat....

If I felt like they were hunting the property directly (trespassing and poaching), purposefully hunting the property line and pushing their dogs towards my side of the fence, or hunting the 50ac neighboring property with no expectation that the dogs would stay on it, we would have an issue.

If I felt like they were hunting responsibly and their dogs just got on a track to our side, or had been on a long winded runner, or some other good reason, I'd offer him a beer.

Steve

Good Question. I guess it just depends on the story you get from them. I have had that happen to me in both directions. i have had other people's dogs end up at our bay, But i have also had some of mine or my hunting buddys dogs end up at someone else's bay.

Appreciate it, we called them and took there dogs to them. I think it was your third senario Steve. The smaller bordering property, but we were nice (so were they)and pointed them back to there property. Anyway I guess they told the land owner they were hunting for they were not going to hunt there anymore, because the land owner got Heath's # from them and called Heath wanting us to hunt his place too. ;)

Sounds like it turned out well for you ;)

Though I'd take strange hog dogs over a gang of coyotes any day. Sadie may never strike a hog again, not that the odds are in her favor anyway :- And I know for a fact Freyja won't, she was so shaken by her encounter that she went to be a blood tracker/pet.

Poor Freyja...I guess she's just lucky to be alive.

Funny you say that, we were out running a cat yesterday and the coyotes had packed up and were howling not to far from us. first time this has happened. good thing we run about 6 or 7 dogs~ As for other dogs showing up, ive only had it happen once and with a cat in the tree it gets pretty intense to say the least... :)) Some guys will dump their dogs on a track you have started and then try to claim the cat. They better have packed a lunch on that day! :))
