Yeah, the Sulphur Springs bay is supposed to be pretty big. Amber, I thought I heard it was in a covered arena, is that true?

When we went last year, it was similar to the setup at TNT. Basically just a pen in someone's pasture near their house.

Owner of Sulphur Springs has lots of catahoulas, some blackmouth curs, and several mini dachshunds. They all have really neat chain set ups but the thing is I heard that the owner does not hog hunt anymore and has over 30 or so dogs sitting there looking pretty. Not sure if it's true but that would be doing the dogs a disservice. Really big pasture!

It must be another bay in that area with a covered arena. Or maybe I just completely made that up! Ted, the Boyds are still very active in bay pen competitions, so I'm sure a lot of those dogs get used.

Camo, good luck this weekend! I'm still considering it... which I shouldn't be, I have so much stuff to get done! But it'll be really good for you to see another event. And it'll be even better for the dogs to test their skills in a new environment. Looking forward to the report!

And Rachel, keep us posted on when you might want to make a bay. I want to see those little pups rip it up :))

Have fun at the bay, Camo. :) I will be less than twenty minutes away from there checking traps at about 5 or 6 pm, but I doubt it will still be going on. I don't think you'll have much to worry about in the way of dogs getting cut. Alot of the hogs are used to it and will just sit there. I've seen meaner ones at the Bremond bay. Just bring cut collars and a vest if you've got a super gritty pup.

Julie, I'll let you know when I plan to come out. Diesel and Bailey need to see a bigger, green pig before I put them in a competition, though. They're too used to little lazy ones. :)) So far, my Moonpie pup has been making me proud and is old enough to get in the pen. She's dumber than a doornail, but she hates piggies!

I went to McCoy last month and they didn't do calcuttas. Word is they don't do that anymore. Those boars still have thier teeth and i saw them wreck a couple dogs, but nothing serious. Your pups should be fine if they don't get to catchy.

Wow, no more calcuttas? Did Pearsall change too? Roger was a master at those, it was like watching an auctioneer. I think he got someone to put $50 on Sadie in her second bay! But it definitely brought in a few spectators that were only interested in gambling.

Patrick, let us know if you're gonna go again, I'm planning to make it down to McCoy in the next couple months.

Believe Sulphur Springs and Callaway is still on.

As for calcuttas, never did like them because I'm not a big fan of gambling and it's a waste of my time waiting for the spokes person to finish his chant :D am glad there are some bay pens that aren't into it.

We drove down there this morning and it was obvious that it had flooded last night. I have never even seen water in some of those Atascosa rivers, but they were almost over the roads! The weather turned out nice, though. Would have been a great day for a bay out in McCoy.
