Hey guys! We have a couple updates for anyone competing in the contest. And remember, it isn't too late to sign up, you have until Friday, Feb. 27, to make a decision.

In addition to cash and other prizes, the winning team will receive four handmade buckles. Pictures just came in from Hy O Silver in Bandera, and they look really neat!

The TDHA has also posted the official rules. Winners will have to pass a polygraph to assure that no cheating occurred. Most of the rules are pretty standard for a dog hunting contest, just make sure you read them thoroughly and understand them. Here are a few that you should be aware of:

1.) No shot hogs. If a hog has a fresh bullet hole, it will not be eligible for the contest, though you are welcome to donate the meat. But contest hogs must be hunted by dogs and killed with a knife.

2.) Hogs must be in edible condition. If the meat is declared inedible by inspectors, the hog will not be eligible for the contest. So plan ahead for coolers, ice, whatever you need.

3.) All teams must hunt together. You cannot split up to cover multiple locations at one time.

4.) Though you cannot have more than four official team members, you can use as many dogs and human helpers as you want.

If you have any questions about the rules, the best place to ask them is at TDHA message board, www.tdha.org.

Hog meat must come to weigh-in in edible condition. Hogs must arrive at weigh-in being thoroughly washed out (inside the body cavity and outside). Any dressed hogs determined by the committee to be unfit for human consumption will be disqualified. Use coolers and ice to ensure this. THIS RULE WILL BE STRONGLY ENFORCED.

A hog must be a minimum of 50 pounds gutted to be entered into the contest.

All team members will be required to provide hunting licenses and photos prior to any of their hogs being weighed in. An inspector will ask for these. Be prepared and have them in hand.

There will be a group of inspectors that will mark and examine each hog as it is weighed in. If the inspectors find a hog to be un-edible or to have a unhealed\fresh bullet hole, that hog will be disqualified. If two hogs are found with unhealed/ fresh bullet holes, that team will be disqualified.

Disqualified hogs can not be replaced.

RULES and REGULATIONS
The contest is open to wild (feral) hogs hunted with dogs in any county in Texas and only harvested during the period from 5:00 p.m. on February, 27th, 2009 through 11:59am on March 1, 2009.

This is a dog-knife hunting contest ONLY. NO SHOT HOGS!

Hogs cannot have been previously trapped, kept, or held for the contest. Hogs caught outside contest hours may not be held for entry into the contest. Hogs caught with dogs during contest hours may be held, but must be weighed in field dressed and cannot be shot.

Hogs must be harvested on free range properties. They MUST NOT come from behind a game proof/high fence.

No splitting of teams. All team members must hunt together. Each team is permitted to run one pack of dogs at a time. For the purpose of this contest, a pack is considered a single group of dogs being handled by the team members. A team may not concurrently run multiple packs in multiple locations.

POLYGRAPH WILL BE USED TO INSURE THE INTEGRITY OF THIS CONTEST. Failing the polygraph or refusal to take the polygraph will result in disqualification.

Each Team will be responsible for producing proof of each of their harvests, by digital photo, Polaroid, video, etc. The Committee will instruct Teams on an item of the day for each day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), to be included in the pictures/videos.

Photos must have 3 of the 4 team members and MUST BE TAKEN IN THE FIELD as close to the time of harvest as possible.

A digital photo, video, Polaroid or 35 mm camera (if able to get pictures developed by weigh-in time) will be required for all teams. If photos are taken using a camera phone (or any other device) they must be printed on hard-copy paper (3”X5” or larger), on a cd or a jump drive, or be able to be uploaded to the TDHA computer on site. The “item of the day” must be clearly visible and identifiable in the photos.

Any contestant found trying to cheat will be disqualified, banned from entering the contest again, and will forfeit their entry fee.

Any individuals or teams found guilty of violating any Texas Game Laws during this contest will be disqualified.

No disorderly conduct, such as cursing, fighting, or rude behavior will be tolerated at the sign-in or weigh-in.

No guns, knives, or weapons of any sort can be displayed or worn on the sign-in or weigh-in premises.

No injured or malnourished dogs of any kind are allowed on the sign-in or weigh-in premises.

No consumption of alcohol on the sign-in or weigh-in premises.

Each Team Captain has the option of standing in the weigh-in area to witness his or her team’s hogs being weighed and as the other teams are being weighed. Please be courteous of the judges and the space they need to conduct weigh-in.

Any Violation of these rules will result in the entire team being disqualified and the individual(s) involved will be removed from the premises. Violation of the rules can also result in banning the individual(s) from future TDHA sponsored events as well as from the organization.

All protests must be in writing to Douglas Mason, TDHA President and Protest Committee Chair, and must be made immediately after the occasion arises for protest. The protest committee will then be contacted. All decisions of the protest committee are final!

NOTES
** Each team member will receive free entry into the 2009 Wild Boar Hunting EXPO and a raffle ticket for special door prizes for contestants.

Just a note: A minimum weight has been added to the rules. A hog must be 50 lbs field dressed and in edible condition to be eligible for the contest. Smaller hogs will not be counted towards your total weight of your number of hogs in a stringer.
