So far the consensus is the hogs at Bremond are nothing to laugh at. You might draw a small one, but they are pretty fresh and apt to roll a young pup who doesn't know what they're doing. You don't want that to be Remi's first experience with hogs. Though she might not get physically hurt, that sort of thing can definitely bruise their ego.

But they did encourage me how to contact the man running the bay. They said he's very nice and it's worth asking if he would let you try Remi on a small pig after the competition is over. I'm not sure what time that would be, probably mid-afternoon, but it just depends on how many people show up. So if you think it's likely you could make it, I can see if that's an option.

Thanks for checking on that for me Julie! We are actually going to the play day again this year and I was thinking about driving the couple hours over to yall before it's over to get a full taste of everything...plus it would be great to meet yall too! I would be happy to call the head guy and see if he would be willing to let Remi try a small pig afterwards.

I talked to Mr. Thompson about Remi last night and he didn't think it would be a problem either way...if I wanted to put her in the puppy bay or wait till afterwards. We will probably not be there till 2 or 3 but he said it lasted till around 4ish. Hopefully it will all work out...it will add a little over an hour more to our trip but I think it will be worth it to meet all yall and check out this hog baying stuff!

Chris, I hope you decide to come.

I was right about our girls...now all three of them are in heat. Whether we go or not depends on them, but I'll let y'all know ahead of time.

Vick's Vapor Rub!

Slather it all over their hoo-ha's and none of the stud dogs will be able to smell a thing.

For some reason Vick's doesn't sound like the world's most comfortable solution, but I've heard it work.

Chris, I'm so excited you guys were able to work something out! And my offer stands to run Sadie with her either in the puppy bay or training afterward. I'm guessing you might want to come after, it really does sound like a gnarly group of pigs, but I would trust whatever Mr. Thompson told you. And from your post in AC, it sounds like Remi is coming into her own, so who knows, she might run in and catch out on her first try :))

Man I wish I would have seen this earlier. Bremond is fairly close to College Station and would have made for a nice day trip. Do you know if this is something they do more than once a year or so? I have already made plans to head south to visit family for the extended weekend or else I would try and make it out there.

I agree! You notice it's the men that suggest it!

ctomanec, I believe they have this baying every month or so and I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I stayed out of it because I`ve had this argument with my other half...thinking I may smear a little of that stuff in his undies and see how he likes it.. :))

Our poor catch dogs are the ones that always end up slathered in it..I know it works but it has to burn.
BUT Maya hasn't ever acted like it bothered her...so I may be wrong, she maybe just running around feeling tingly fresh :))

Bremond was a blast! I'll have the info up for the June baying as soon as I get it. The next one will be a benefit for the TDHA, so I hope lots of members can make it!

Here are the threads with pictures and videos if you want to see what it was like:
