I am a very long ways from smart I should have shot it!

Well I woke up on Tuesday May 11 to a half inch of snow but it was still coming down so i decided not to hunt. But the wind had died down and the snow stopped by around 1p.m. so i set my alarm for Wenesday. I finally rolled out of bed around 4:30 got dressed ate breakfast the usual. Went out loaded up Copper, Joe and Tera and took off on the quad. I was driving up the canyon freezing my butt of when all of a sudden I see a good sized track crossing the road, it had snow in it so I couldn't tell what kind of critter it was. I walked it out till it went under some tree's and sure enough it was a lion. I went back to the quad drove up the road a little ways and collared up the dogs. It didnt take much for them to get it started and go out of hearing. I went and parked and took off as fast as I could hiking after them. An hour and a half and 7 miles later they had it treed in a big bowl chalk full of jack pines. I tied the dogs back took some pictures and was debating on shooting him when he jumped and ran, I turned the dogs loose and shortly after they had it bayed on a big rock. By then I had decided to not shoot him cause I wasn't about to drag him the 7 miles back to the road by myself. So I pulled the dogs back and headed off the mountain. All in all it was a great hunt, the dogs did great nobody got hurt and I made it home by lunch time. But I will forever regret not shooting that lion although maybe someday I'll find his track again and have a second chance.

Those pictures are amazing! I still can't get over how close you get to them and how beautiful they are!

Unreal :-o You did shoot, at such close range I'd have peed my pants yet again, and this way you might get a second chance.

And that has to be the biggest one I've seen yet. What do you think he'd come in at?

Julie, at the time I was thinking he was only 160 pounds but after I calmed down and had a few friends and more experienced guys look at the pictures we were all in agreement that he is right around 180 and pushing 8' long. I't doesn't matter where in north america you are that is a cat of a lifetime. But being under the impression of him only being a decent tom he's still runnin'.
