Got lucky again on new years day! The dogs put this one up on the cali nv border in the bare ground. We were over doin some ADC work for coyotes, bobcats and lions on a ranch. Called coyotes, got a lay of the land, set some traps and drug roads the first day. Ran a bobcat all day the second day. Wound up turning loose on this tom about 5 in the morning. The dogs ran him for about ten miles before finally jumping him around 9 o'clock. They treed him in a scraglly little juniper tree the first time, he jumped once we got within 100 yards and they caught him out on this rock where i was able to get 1 pick of him with the cell phone before things got out of hand. All in all a great way to start the new year and nobody got hurt.

So y'all caught that thing or shot it?

I've only seen one and passed up on it because it was still very young! Wish I could get a chance after another someday.

Trapperchick - You pay for the gas and I'll take ya!

Jpepper - We caught it then shot it, I don't usually kill cats that small but it was in town killin dogs so we got him out of there.

Riverrat - A good cold nosed dog works best. I have a lacy and he's an awesome dog if the track is no more than 8 hours old.

Great Job Cory,

There are plenty of lions in that area. I used to keep track of the Mule deer and wild Mustang herds. The lions were always close by. I loved hunting the antelope, mule deer, elk, lions, big horn sheep and sage hen. Always plenty to do if you like the outdoors.

I lived in Tonopah and worked out on the Test Range for years. I was in Tonopah in August visiting friends. I know... most people say who in their right mind would go to Tonopah and visit. My friend Paul owns the Western Store and Archery Shop there. He's an Avid hunter and has the luck of the Irish for drawing tags. I miss backpacking into the mountains to hunt.
