Well the blue is fading away quickly on the red pups and it appears they will have no off coloring . Most of the blue trim on the ears back and tail is almost gone at 3 weeks old they are still showing some blue around the face but even it is going away. I think it will be completely gone very shortly. So we have one dark red and one light red. However on the 3rd pup we thought that would be red is turning into a gun metal gray or silver a color I have not seen yet on any Lacy pup. He has lost a lot of the red shading and is getting more silver by the day. I guess time will tell what color this pup will be down the road. The 2 blues are just good looking pups.

At JP's seminar we learned that, in the world of red dogs, there are two forms of red: clear red and Agouti red. Clear and Augouti reds can look pretty much the same as adults. In puppies, however, there are some subtle differences. Agouti reds start out dark and tend to lighten in color as they age. In contrast, clear reds start out pale and turn a richer red color. Any puppy with dark shading, no matter how intense, is an agouti red. Chinchilla causes red dogs to lighten in color. Chinchilla dilutes red pigment (phaeomelanin) so the red hairs on an agouti dog become cream or greyish.

This is probably what you have here. The pup you are calling "silver" is probably an agouti red because of the small amount of shading on her face and ears but the chinchilla genes are causing her red to be light. Think about her as an almost-cream.

All in all, they look great to me.

Court gave a good report on the red pups. The 2 darker pups are definitely agouiti, as are all but 1 red that have been tested. The one dog that came back as clear red is a definite cream.

I have known of several pups that have completely changed colors from what they were when they were born. One was born red, sold as a red and has turned into a silver color- almost ghostly. I know of one pup that was born with a brown overcoat, but grew into a totally beautiful red dog. I've seen pups that were blue at birth and sold as blue and they turned into tri-colors as they aged. So, it happens. I dont really have an answer as to why this happens, other than the agouti red and chinchilla situation, but I do know that since I started this that I am glad that we inspect dogs when they are older.

The pups are all good looking pups. I love the pic of the pup sitting in the food dish!!

The ghostly look is what I would describe the one as . Thanks for all the info Courtney and Betty . I am still a fan of blue I must say but it is nice to see some other color.

Ok Kevin shes yours as soon as the pups are gone!!!
