Do they know who her breeder is? As a breeder, I always want our buyers to come to us first if they need to rehome their dog.

No, they do not know who the breeder is. I do not know if they have asked the original owner, as he was very negligent with her. After he found out the female was pregnant, he attempted to strike a deal with them in order to make profit off the of the puppies stating they were purebred and he could sell them for hundreds, despite the fact that he was previously going to leave her on the side of the road. They refused and stated he surrendered the dog to them and that he had right to the puppies. Instead, they screened homes and re-homed them for a very small amount to put towards caring for the mother. I doubt she is from an ethical breeder or that the original owner would be willing to divulge the breeder's information since he was neglectful, but do you believe that is a route they should attempt to take?

No, you're probably right. Sounds like you wouldn't be able to locate the breeder anyway.
