How about some of yall post your trials and tribulations of training your tracker, and what you did to overcome those obstacles.Whether it was mock trails or the real deal.

I need to work the dogs some but it's hard to get motivated in the summertime.

Rowdy absolutely refuses to be trash broken. I've been working on her with the e-collar but she still barks at cows and chases deer. I'm going out later today to work on it some more. We have the ideal situation...a lot of cows and deer running around out here. My collar goes from 1 to 12. I've been using levels 3 and 4. I guess I need to turn it up to 6 or 7.

I never did a lot of training with Lucy. She is such a natural. We dont do much tracking any more and never got a lot of calls as it was. But, Lucy loves to track. It took 2 or 3 times of putting her tracking harness on for her to realize that she was going tracking. She would start shaking and just would be so excited!

The funny thing about Lucy was that once she found the deer, she just wanted to go on tracking! She never got excited about finding the deer, just wanted to go on!

Lucy tracked a live trail at 4 months and did any outstanding job for a pup. My son is a good tracker and the shot was a bad one. He couldnt find but one drop of blood. Had broken bone and a tiny amount of blood here and there. We showed her the bone in the feeder area and away she went. She found blood on the fence and yards away, found another drop of blood. She found where the deer went thru the fence and one spot of blood after that. Then, she said-' I'm tired- I am just a puppy after all' and she sat down and didnt do anything else! :)) I think if she had just a bit more prey drive, she would be a great tracker.

Lucy has never been broke from anything, but her focus is amazing when she is tracking. If we tracked a lot for other people and had a lot of cattle and pigs to deal with, it might be different, but she tracks thru our cattle and never pays any attention to them. She's just an ideal tracker for me. Just what I wanted and I love to watch her track!!

My other dogs will track, but they have never been on a live track under good conditions. They both have great noses and I think that they would be fine trackers, but just have never used them unless Lucy couldnt find it. Larry will take down a live deer, no problem, but Lucy has never come up on a live deer, so I just dont know what she would do.

Courtney, we were having trouble with Rowdy's sister Hattie jumping through the space in the top of our gate, so we put the e-collar on her to do some training. She has a super-high pain tolerance! Ours goes from 1-5, and we usually put it on 3, but at that level she acted like it wasn't even on! She kept trying again, and again, and again! :-o DJ finally gave up and rigged up the gate instead. I bet you'll really have to crank it up for Rowdy, too.

She's been hunting at the dairy several times, and doesn't bother the cows. Hunting out there is a real test for the dogs because the dairy calves are really curious. Sometimes they even chase the dogs!

This rain and snap of cooler weather has given me the itch to run some trails! Hopefully I can get out and do that before it gets too hot again.
