First one on lead. I bought a new mop and cut off four of the strings and tied them together on a nylon string. I soaked the mop strings in beef liver blood and used the drag to lay the trail and after the first few feet there was no visible blood on the trail. I am not aging the trail but a few minutes. I used a retractable leash and it seemed to work out pretty good and didn't distract her too bad. I put several pieces of liver on the trail and she only found one at about the one minute mark. After watching the video I noticed I still need to slow her down a little more and get her searching more thoroughly but she is doing GREAT in my novice opinion. I also laid the trail in an area that has heavy deer traffic (notice the tracks on the ground) so she had to have smelled some fresh deer.

I think that she is doing great!! She's working things out for herself and that is so much a part of it! Good job!

She is definitely working things out for herself Mrs. Betty. My only goal at this point to slow her down more and keep her nose down more.

I've never trained a tracking dog, so I'm enjoying watching your videos. Keep it up, Grady and Slim!

oh yea and my buddies that watch the video recommend that I lose the "puppy voice" in favor or my regular voice. I thought it was a pretty valid point so that people I track for don't look at me funny ! /:)

Dont worry about it, when you find your buddies deer they will be the one acting a fool! :)) I would encourage it, any thing that makes the dog feel good do it, act a fool get down on all fours, make it fun for the pup.

Grady I've been thinking the same thing myself and haven't posted any videos really due to my "puppy voice" but hey it works and they all respond very well so I think I'll take the ribbing in favor of my pups doing a great job!

Great job yourself Grady!!
