I am getting my dogs ready to possibly get them certified. I put them both(casey and wyatt) on a mock trail that consisted of :
4 ounces of blood
8 hours aged
They both completed the tracks I laid for them BUT they seemed bored with this mock trail. It took them awhile to get started because they kept looking for the scent let off by the hoofs ( I kept seeing them smelling deer tracks ). Once they very "Convinced " it was the right track they took off out of sight. But like I said it took them awhile. They have been on 15+ deer tracks this year and I know that THEY KNEW it was a mock trail. They had not been on a mock trail since sept 28 2013
My question is how do I react to this?
I understand this is a good problem to have and getting them certified doesn't mean a thing, but it's just something I would like to do with my dogs. Has anyone had this problem before? Need all the advice i can get.
Thanks - Sergio

I never ran Lucy too much on mock trails because she knew the difference from a mock trail and a live one. I didnt have the fancy boots and all of that stuff and people would tell me that she was probably following my scent, etc. But, Lucy knew how to track and whether she was tracking me or the deer blood, she found the end of the trail! She was tracking when she was 4 mo old, with no training. I would refresh her before the season started.
Lucy has an uncanny sense for knowing when she is going tracking and I just gave up trying to fool her!
