Now that I understand a little more about line breeding, and the importance of having a near-perfect, double recessive foundation for your breeding program, I'm curious. Which dogs out there are considered the current ideal? Don't want to start an argument or anything... well.. maybe that would actually be fun, given I'd just be watching. :ymdevil:

But which Lacys out there have a realistic claim to being "Top Dog"?

(Other than Sadie of course. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side by not mentioning her)

It would be different for every kennel, depending on that kennels objective. For Mike and Mis, its Trapper.

I don't have a dog that I want to replicate yet. Banjo or Lucy may prove to be that dog, or I may have to keep looking. I have some good ones but none that are 100% perfect in my mind.

A squirrel hunter would require different traits than a blood trailer. Each kennels perfect dog would be very different from one another.

Steve is right on all accounts.
Trapper is what we would like to replicate and improve on. Is he perfect? No
but he is ideal in all 3 breeding aspects. It will be amazing the day we not only reproduce his qualities but improve on them as well.. :D

Mimzy is our other prospect for that..

I think Jimmy's dog Patch might be a candidate. He probably also has the dogs to try to recreate a close approximation of Peanut, who was his top dog before he died.

But I think anyone that wants to start a line like that needs to be very disciplined and as unbiased as possible when it comes to looking at their dogs. Just because you like a dog doesn't mean they are truly a top dog worthy of reproducing. They need to be truly exceptional in every aspect, but especially when it comes to working ability.

Thank god Sadie is spayed. Though I'm pretty sure she could figure out a way to spawn at will if she put her evil mind to it. They'll be like gremlins, I'll wake up one morning with a pack of blue monsters swarming the bed.
