You will all have to bare with me..putting this all together in away that is easy to understand is going to take a little finessing ...not my strength. I do not try to speak over peoples heads on purpose, I just don't always know how to break it down into layman's terms. I will try however, that may mean y'all having to read all the research I have read on this subject...

First since there has been so much talk about the AFR lately, thought you might start by reading this http://www.alapahaconnectionkennels.com ... the_breed/ please be sure to click the link at the bottom of that page for more genetics...it explains about % contribution. That,I feel, helps with understanding out crossing. (not to be confused with random breeding.)

Then I would like for you to read this
http://www.k9magazine.com/viewarticle.p ... 5&aid=2294
It is LONG but relative and informative. Kevin it even discusses cows.. ;)
Please note that the U.K.C is not the Kennel Club in question in the article, as the U.K.C. does have breeding programs that allow for true out crossing when there is a clear and present need for it.

I have so many articles written by geneticist and canine study groups that I refer to. I am sorting through them, laying them out in order of things you should know first, then tackling the in depth application of out crossing for correction in coefficient percentages. Plus it is after 1a.m. and I am getting blurry eyed (-|

In the morning..errr..in a few hours I'll be back here at it. :)
