The vet visit went quite well this afternoon! I was mistaken about the anti-venom shots tho. They dont give anti-venom shots to dogs any more. Something about it costing way too much money. Larry has been getting cortisone, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. They seem to be working. Richard said that it looks like Larry wont lose nearly as much skin as he thought at the beginning! He will lose skin around the bite area and probably on the back side where it is oozing the blood. He still has fluid in places, but doesnt seem to have as much as he had this morning. We have to take him back tomorrow for another shot. Then Monday take him in to check on the skin issue. Hopefully he wont get me up 4 times tonight to go outside!!

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts. They are working! Along with him being good and healthy and a tough big guy!! Not one time has he yelped. This afternoon Abe even stood all over the bite place and the swollen foot and he didnt do a thing! He's tough!!

That big tough guy is also pretty sweet as dogs go.

Most of the extra fluid is gone today. He no longer has an droopy extra stomach. He must have let a lot of the fluid go last night. I had to let him out to go urinate twice last night. He went and went and went and went and went! I thought both times that he just wasnt going to quit!! The leg is still a little swollen, but not much. I am just so very happy and relieved that he has done as well as he has. Again, I thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers, and Larry does too!!

Larry loves to lay in the water trough (the picture on facebook). He has not been out to walk since the snake bite, so he hasnt been past the trough. I hope that he doesnt turn out to be scared of it. We have a big molasses tub that has water in it, so I guess if he is scared of the trough, he can sit in the tub. He just barely fits and I have been trying to get a picture of him all curled up in it! He's a mess!! And, as Kevin says, he is as sweet as they come.

We took Larry in for his last vet visit today. He was super pleased!! He said that Larry had a really bad bite and that he was sure surprised that Larry didnt lose any skin over it! Man, am I proud that he isnt going to be all mangled looking, even if it would be for just a while. Larry is slowly getting back to himself. He is trying to play with the other dogs again, but you can tell that the back leg still bothers him. Hopefully in a few more days, he will be all Larry again. I have missed him. But, I am so very thankful that he is ok.

Thanks all. Larry is not going to lose any skin or hair. He may have a small scar where the snake bit him and the skin died, but it will be small. He still wont play hard with the other dogs, but he will run and fetch. I think he wont play with the others, cause they all chew on each others legs and he is not healed enough to do that. But, he was chasing Abe thru the house last night and that is always a hoot!

Mike,

I took Larry to the vet because he just felt so bad. His leg was swollen all the way up the hip and he felt really, really bad. I guess that I knew that a sprain wouldnt make him feel so bad, but I just never thought of anything other than a sprain, or some bad pulled muscles. He couldnt walk at all. I dont know what I would have done, had Roy not been here. There is no way that I could have picked Larry up and got him in the car. Had I had a clue that he had been snake bit, I would have called the vet and taken him in that night, but I would have never even dreamed that a snake had bit him!! I have two good friends that got bitten by BIG hummer rattlers, each of them while gardening. Neither snake rattled before biting them and I know that snake didnt rattle before biting Larry. I think as fast as Larry was running, the snake just struck. Anyhow, it was a total surprise to me. I sure will know next time tho!!

Thanks again all.
